November in Xtreme

Hey Parents!

The leaves are changing colors, there’s a chill in the air, and the holiday season is fast approaching. Fall is definitely upon us, and with it comes some really exciting news from Xtreme.

This November we will begin a new series called Serve360. In Serve360, we are going to talk about serving others. For many of our students, middle school is a very selfish time. Consumed by their own worlds, the majority of middle school students have little awareness of the needs around them. Throughout the Bible, Jesus shows us that we are to serve people from every station of life. Our goal is to point out to our students that there are tons of opportunities to serve everyone around them. Authorities, peers, and those less fortunate all have needs and are all people we need to serve. We want our 6th, 7th, and 8th graders to know that based on the example of Jesus, we need to be well-rounded servants helping everyone around us.

Bottom Lines for Serve360:
November 2: Greatness starts with service. Mark 9:33–35
November 9: We can’t let our ego stop us from serving. John 13:12–17
November 16: Go the extra mile. Matthew 5:40–42
November 23: Special shoe-box packing service in Xtreme.

Also during the month of November, the Middle School ministry will be participating in the “Be Rich” campaign by partnering with Operation Christmas Child. Operation Christmas Child brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations through gift-filled shoe-boxes and the Good News of God's love. Students will be given the opportunity to experience firsthand what it means to give of their time and resources to children around the world.

Through our Serve360 series, we will be challenging students in Xtreme to bring various supplies that will fill shoe-boxes. These supplies can include but are not limited to: toys, hygiene items, school supplies, hard candy, etc. Students can bring the purchased supplies anytime during the month of November and place them in the collection bins in the Attic. On November 23rd, all the supplies will be brought together and students will actually pack the shoe-boxes in Xtreme. The middle school staff is going to provide shoe-boxes, decorations, and the materials needed to decorate the boxes and write a personal note for each one. For ideas and information about what gifts to bring to Xtreme, please visit the Samaritan's Purse website: www.samaritanspurse.org. Be sure to click on Operation Christmas Child!
